WOODS CROSS — This music has room to play.

For this year’s spring dinner theater, running May 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 13 at Woods Cross High School, director Janet Cook wanted a theme that would leave plenty of room for creativity.

“I wanted to do something quirky, but general enough the kids could do a lot with it,” she said.

The result is “Upside Down,” which mixes everything from classic Broadway numbers to hip-hop.

“The numbers are really fun,” said Summer Sloan, one of the performers. “We have all these intricate costumes.”

This is especially true of “Upside Down,” the number that gives the show its title. Some students have even used the costumes to imbue their performances with a little extra flair.

“You get to do something different and kind of create your own character,” said Sydney King, another performer.

For some students, the creative process goes even further than that. Many of the numbers in the show are choreographed by new and returning students, a process that gives them the chance to be even more involved in the production.

“I use the lyrics and the beats to figure out how I want everyone to move,” said Nio Sauni, one of the student choreographers. “I really like lyrical hip-hop.”

Tickets are $8, and are available at the Woods Cross High Box Office. An a la cart menu will be available. For more information, call 801-402-4611.
