SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Intergenerational Welfare Commission has appointed former LDS Presiding Bishop H. David Burton to its board and to serve as chairman of the Intergenerational Poverty Advisory Committee.

The Utah Legislature created the commission and the advisory committee in the 2013 legislative session.

The entities are charged with working together and using community resources to help Utah children who are victims of intergenerational poverty to escape the cycle of poverty and welfare dependency.

“It is an honor to welcome Bishop Burton to the commission and the committee,” said Commission Chair Jon S. Pierpont, executive director of the state Department of Workforce Services. “As a recognized worldwide leader of community service, Bishop Burton’s understanding of support systems brings remarkable perspective for us as we work to the end of the cycle of intergenerational poverty in Utah.”
