WOODS CROSS — High school baseball is just a few weeks from wrapping up region play for the season.
Keeping themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot, the Braves and Wildcats picked up wins Monda.
Davis slipped to its first region loss of the season.
Viewmont battled tough in last week’s series against West; however, lost two of three games.
Wildcats beat Highland, maintain Region 6 lead
The Woods Cross Wildcats baseball team won back-to-back games for the first time in two weeks when they took down Highland 7-2 on Monday afternoon. The win helped them maintain a two-game lead on Cyprus for the top spot in Region 6 heading into Friday’s game against rival Bountiful.
Shaden Fisher did his part during the game, picking up the win on the mound and hitting a double as part of a seven-hit game for Woods Cross. The Wildcats overcame a two-run deficit in their half of the sixth, scoring seven runs to complete another comeback.
Braves win pitching duel over Clearfield, 1-0
The Bountiful Braves maintained their position in Region 6 with a pitcher’s duel, a 1-0 win over Clearfield on Monday.
Zac Muir picked up the win on the mound, and the Braves scored their only run in the seventh inning on a throwing error.
Darts suffer first region loss at the hands of Layton
Having won the first six Region 1 games heading into Tuesday afternoon, the Darts offense was shut down by Layton’s pitching when Davis suffered its first Region 1 loss of the season, 2-0.
Davis was held to a single hit, a double by Jackson Peacock, and allowed single runs to Layton in the fourth and sixth innings.
Tyler Hill took the loss for the Darts, and Caleb Harrop picked up the win for Layton.
The loss for the Darts puts them in a first place tie with Layton.
Viewmont beats Hunter after losing series to West
The Viewmont Vikings played a three-game series with the West High Panthers but lost two of the three games to fall to third place in Region 2.
West triumphs over Viewmont, 7-3
In the first game, Viewmont jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as clean-up hitter Isaac Evans homered after a Parker Taggart single.
The lead didn’t last long С West took advantage of Viking errors to score three runs in the second and three more in the third. Viewmont could only muster one more, and West never relinquished its lead.
Viewmont bounces back against West, 5-1
In the second game of the series, Viking Brendan Jensen turned in another great performance. He held the Panthers to a single run on five hits. Matt Burt singled and Parker Taggart drove him home with a double to get the Vikings scoring started in the first.
With two outs in the second, Mitch Dalley singled, Will Andres walked. Both scored on a Taggart hit to right center.
A Dalley single in the fifth batted Justin Boucher and Travis Henderson to finish the Viking scoring.
West overcomes Viewmont on third try, 4-2
In the finale, Viewmont took an early 2-0 lead on another Isaac Evans home run, but the Panthers would rally in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead on their way to the series win.
The Vikings bounced back by beating Hunter Tuesday, 7-1.
