Davis students earn National Merit Scholarships

BOUNTIFUL — Four students from Davis County high schools are among this year’s National Merit Scholarship Corporation winners, and each will receive $2,500.

Tuscan Rock Thompson, of Bountiful, a Woods Cross High School student, will receive the scholarship, which is supported by National Merit Scholarship Corporation’s own funds. His probable career field is biochemistry.

Kalli M. Damschen, of Layton, a Clearfield High School student, received a scholarship underwritten by United Parcel Service. Her probable career field is writing.

Brett D. Loertscher, also of Layton and a Clearfield High School student, received the scholarship supported by corporationown funds. His probable career field is computer engineering.

Helena R. Ma, of Layton, a Davis High School student, also received the scholarship, supported by corporation funds. She has not decided on a career field.

Two thousand, five hundred scholarship winners nationwide were chosen  from 15,000 finalists in the 2013 program. By the conclusion of the 2013 program, about 8,000 finalists will have earned the “merit scholar” title and received more than $35 million in college scholarships.
