BOUNTIFUL - The Viewmont Vikings boys’ soccer team opened the State 5A playoffs with a win Tuesday afternoon.

Porter May picked up the shutout at the net, and Austin Johnson and Mike Johnson netted second-half goals for the Vikings in the win in order to advance to Friday’s quarterfinal match.

The shutout at the net was May’s third of the season. Mike Johnson’s second-half goal was his ninth of the season. He leads the team.

Upcoming games

Viewmont’s win will give them a date with Lehi in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers beat Jordan 7-0 Tuesday.

The 4A playoffs got underway Wednesday afternoon when the Braves hosted Hillcrest in the first round. The score was not available as of press time; however, it will be available at davisclipper.com.

A Braves’ win will let the team advance to Friday’s quarterfinals against either Logan or Mountain View.
