BOUNTIFUL — Rather than fighting city hall, consider joining it. There won't be federal or state elections this fall, so local candidates will have a chance to shine.

If you're interested, start preparing now. Candidates for mayoral, city council and special district seats must file with their respective cities between June 3 and June 7 to be eligible for 2013 fall elections.

Candidates must be citizens of the United States, be registered voters in their municipalities and must have been residents there for the 12 months preceding election day.

Early voting for primary elections starts July 30 and regular primaries will be held Augst 13. Early voting for the general election starts Oct. 22 and election day is Nov. 5.

Contact your city recorder for more information. Find information about how to do so here.
