FARMINGTON — Like many of her fellow Farmington residents, Jessica Bradbury has wondered why a city with a historical past of farming has not been the site of a weekly farmer’s market. This past week, Bradbury stood before the City Council to ask to organize a farmer’s market within city boundaries.

Bradbury asked the mayor and council to consider the possibility of holding a market at Station Park, indicating that the location and accessibility of that venue far exceeds any of the city’s parks or other public spaces.

Mayor Hrbertson told Bradbury that he would be happy to contact those who could give the required permission to hold that type of event within the perimeters of Station Park.

The city’s planning department confirmed that Bradbury’s presentation was accurate; specifically that location is key to the success of a city-sponsored farmer’s market.

Bradbury hopes to have permissions and permits in place to hold the first market near the end of June. Those interested in acquiring a booth space for homegrown goods or handmade merchandise should contact the city offices for updates.
