SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake’s Tesoro Refinery is among four of the company’s refineries that will share in paying a $1.1 million penalty to resolve claims that the company failed to comply with requirements under the federal Clean Air Act.

The federal Environmental Protection Agency alleges that Tesoro failed to comply with record keeping, reporting, sampling and testing requirements at its refineries in Salt Lake City;  Mandan, N.D.; Anacortes, Wash.; and Kenai, Alaska.

In addition to the fine, the settlement required that Tesoro implement an environmental compliance and auditing plan designed to prevent future violations and ensure compliance with EPA’s fuels regulation, according to an EPA press release.

A consent decree is subject to a 30-day public comment period and final curt approval.
