Man in custody after high-speed chase

CLEARFIELD — Police caught up with a man driving a stolen vehicle after he allegedly led them on a high-speed chase through Clearfield, Layton and into Morgan County.

Jeffery Hill, 48, was booked into the Davis County Jail on suspicion of evading an officer, possession of stolen property and possession of ammunition by a restricted person, all third-degree felonies; possession of a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony; and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a class A misdemeanor.

Officers were called to the Pinnacle Apartments, 1100 S. 2000 East in Clearfield just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday to look for a stolen vehicle out of Rifle, Colo., according to Clearfield Police Sgt. Kyle Jeffries. 

It was reported that Hill could have a firearm and that they should beware of possible suicide by cop, Jeffries aid.

When officers arrived, they found Hill sitting inside the vehicle. They contacted him and he allegedly fled, leading police on a high-speed chase.

Hill eventually stopped and surrendered to police, Jeffries said.
