FARMINGTON – Teachers who make up the Davis Education Association voted earlier this month to accept the contract negotiated with the Davis School District.

Their acceptance paved the way for the Davis School Board to give final approval to its $539 million budget, of which 91 percent is related to personnel.

Association president Don Paver told the board on June 18 that 47 percent of members voted and of those, 91 percent were in favor of ratification.

The negotiated agreement includes “steps and lanes” increases for teachers who have been with the district for a number of years or who have obtained additional education. Teachers agreed to forego payment for one training day, which will result in a decrease in take-home pay for many.

Insurance and retirement benefits now take up a greater percentage of the package than they have in past years, according to Craig Carter, district business administrator.
