FARMINGTON – A new Davis County Elections Manager has been approved by the County Commission.

Brian McKenzie was named to the position Tuesday, only days after 30-year veteran manager Pat Beckstead retired.

McKenzie, a Kaysville resident, has worked nine years in the County Clerk/Auditor’s Office, which oversees elections. For six years, he has worked in the elections division.

McKenzie has had a variety of assignments, including preparation of financial information for the South Davis Recreation District board of directors, reconciling all county travel receipts, and many election-related duties.

Those assignments have included checking the county’s 900-plus voting machines to assure they’re in working order, preparing election training materials, preparing contracts with cities and other entities related to conducting elections and more.

“We are either cleaning up after the previous election,” he said, or “preparing for the next one. We’ve been going since Jan. 1 on this election.”

McKenzie is one of only five certified election administrators in the state, said Terry Tremea, a chief deputy, in the Clerk/Auditor’s office.

He chairs a state Clerk/Auditor’s Association legislative subcommittee studying ways to make it easier to register to vote, with the hope of getting more people involved in the voting process.

McKenzie has also served as an officer in the Davis County Employee’s Association, including several years as its chair.

“I’m excited to continue in this arena, working with a wonderful team, plus wonderful volunteers as poll workers,” he said.
