BOUNTIFUL – Winners in a video contest sponsored by Utah’s Department of Environmental Quality were announced last week and include Bountiful resident Travis Thurston.
Thurston’s video, “We Like Clean Air,” featured his two sons and came in second place, according to a press release.
“Air quality is an important issue to our family because we love to recreate outdoors,” Thurston was quoted as saying. “My wife and I want to provide the best environment possible for our children, and we can all do our part in improving the air quality here in Utah.”
The first-place award went to Jason Girouard of Brimfield, Mass., for “Let’s Conserve Energy,” and third place went to Jordan Kocherhans of Highland for “Alternate Transportation.”
The 30-second spots highlighted problems from ozone, an invisible gas formed when vehicle exhaust or other emissions mix with sunlight and heat. Videos were to show how ozone is formed, how it impacts health or what people can do to prevent it.
