LAYTON — Police arrested a registered sex offender on Saturday after he allegedly sexually abused a 13-year-old girl.

Gary Ellis Hamblin, 47, was booked into the Davis County Jail on two counts of sodomy upon a child, one count of rape of a child and one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Police received a call from the girl’s mother on Saturday telling them Hamblin had sexually abused her daughter, according to Layton Police Lt. Shawn Horton. Police immediately went to Hamblin’s house and arrested him without incident.

Hamblin knew the girl, Horton said.

Hamblin was sentenced in 1995 to serve one to 15 years  in the Utah State Prison on one count of attempted aggravated kidnapping and another count of forcible sexual abuse, both second-degree felonies. He served the sentences concurrently.

Hamblin was released from prison in 2005, according to the state’s sex offender registry.
