CENTERVILLE — A 16-year-old woman standing outside her vehicle following a multi-car crash on I-15 was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition Thursday afternoon.

A three-car crash happened about 1 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-15 at Parrish Lane when the driver of one vehicle swerved to avoid hitting a piece of metal debris in the road, said Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Johnson.

All three cars pulled to the shoulder of the road and the drivers were standing next to their cars when a fourth vehicle hit the debris and crashed into the drivers, Johnson said.

The teen was taken to the hospital by air ambulance. The other two drivers were transported by ambulance in serious condition, Johnson said.

Northbound I-15 was closed for a couple of hours. Johnson said one or two lanes were expected to reopen by about 3:30 p.m.

The accident is still under investigation.
