BOUNTIFUL — Police are looking for a suspect who allegedly stole miscellaneous items from the Smith’s Marketplace at 555 S. 200 West on Sunday afternoon.

“The suspect loaded up a car and as he was attempting to leave, the store’s loss prevention specialist (store security) followed him into the parking lot,” said Bountiful Police Lt. Jon Purcell.

The theft happened about 1 p.m.

The security officer got a photo of the suspect with his cell phone and the police posted it on social media.

“The picture is good and clear, especially showing the suspect’s tattoo,” Purcell said.

Bountiful police have a good working relationship with store security at Smith’s Marketplace, Purcell said. Smith’s corporate policy doesn’t allow for store employees to engage alleged shoplifters physically, so while watching a suspect, the store’s security personnel will call police and ask for assistance, explaining why they believe the person may be shoplifting.

Anyone with information on the theft should call Bountiful police at 801-298-6000.
