BOUNTIFUL С It was a tough opening week for one of the four south Davis County football teams.

As Viewmont, Woods Cross and Davis all picked up wins in the opening week of the football season, Bountiful lost its game to Lone Peak in a tough battle.

Vikings win opener over Bonneville Lakers, 20-17

Max Hadlock threw for 101 yards and one touchdown, and Mason Wright scored two touchdowns on defense to help Viewmont win its opening football game over Bonneville 20-17.

Wright’s first touchdown for the defense was a 37-yard interception returned for a touchdown that gave Viewmont a 13-7 lead. His second came on a sack that caused Bonneville to fumble the ball in the end zone.

Wright recovered the ball and gave the Vikings a 20-10 lead at the time.

Colby Simons finished with 82 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Wildcats’ defense breaks tie, beats Maple Mountain

Woods Cross’ defense allowed 21 first-half points Friday night, but blanked Maple Mountain in the second half as the Wildcats opened the season with a 33-21 win.

Xequille Harry helped out the defense by returning an interception for a touchdown that tied the game at the time.

Lawrence Brown and Braxton Gunther led the ground game, scoring a touchdown each. Luke Jowers threw a touchdown pass to Sean Gallagher as well.

Davis holds Copper Hills to seven points, win 45-7

After allowing a first quarter touchdown to the Grizzlies, the Darts team responded by scoring 45 points and shut down Copper Hills for the rest of the game in a 45-7 blowout victory.

Colton Chronister led the offense with a rushing and a passing touchdown, and Mason White, Parker Rose and Tyree Adams each added rushing touchdowns in the win.

Davis Owen kicked a pair of extra points and a field goal for the Darts.

Bountiful drops opening game to Lone Peak

Bountiful’s Houston Heimuli helped the Braves take a 14-13 lead in the third quarter; however, Lone Peak held the Braves scoreless for the rest of the game and won 32-14.

Jordan Hayes threw a touchdown to Sam Merrill for Bountiful’s only other touchdown in the game. Lone Peak’s Baron Gajkowski accounted for all five of the Knights’ scores, rushing for four touchdowns and passing for another in the win.

Viewmont will travel to Bountiful High School for its annual rivalry game between the two schools. Last year the Braves won 45-7.

Woods Cross will get on the bus for the second straight week as the Wildcats travel to Judge Memorial to take on the Bulldogs.
