LAYTON - The Davis County Gala, set for tonight, Sept. 5, will aid in opening of the new Layton Boys & Girls Club, which is hoped for later this year.
Net proceeds of the event, to be held at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, will benefit the Boys & Girls Club.
County Commissioner Louenda Downs hopes such clubs will be established throughout the county. The first is planned for the Central Davis Junior High area of Layton.
Up until now, only a limited after-school program has operated at North Davis Junior High School. Some Davis County youth have traveled to Roy to participate in a Weber County program.
“This will help meet the needs of more of our at-risk children here locally,” said County Commission Chair John Petroff. “We look forward to the growing success of this great organization.”
“Come Aboard Р We’re Expecting You” is the event’s theme, modeled after “The Love Boat,” an old TV program that featured a ship that traveled the high seas.
This black tie event will feature music by the Voodoo Orchestra, a nationally recognized swing band made up of high school musicians from around Utah.
The culinary staff at the Conference Center has created a tradition that combines fine dining and tasty surprises.
Activities start at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction followed by dinner, awarding of the “Heart of Davis County” to Lagoon, and the musical program.
