WOODS CROSS — Thursday afternoon was a tough day for half of the south Davis County girls’ soccer teams.

Davis and Bountiful both picked up wins in region play, but Viewmont lost a battle to Fremont and Woods Cross lost its game to East.

Davis downs Weber in close match, 4-3

The game against Weber went from dominance to a near catastrophe for the Davis girls’ soccer team last Thursday.

After building a 3-1 lead at the half, the Warriors nearly came back twice before Madi Garlock  scored the Dart’s only second half goal to notch a 4-3 win.

Garlock scored two goals in the game, bringing her season total up to seven in as many games.

The Darts are 6-1 overall and are 2-1 in Region 1 play.

Bountiful sinks Pirates with eight goals

The Bountiful Lady Braves have been on a roll since finishing their short preseason schedule without a single victory.

Following a 1-0 victory over East on Tuesday, the Lady Braves put on a scoring clinic by knocking in eight goals Thursday in an 8-0 victory over the Cyprus Pirates.

Miranda Tesch, Sophia Skedros and Sydney Ripplinger scored two goals a piece in the win. Liz Crezza and Amanda Walker scored a single goal each, and Charity Cole picked up another shutout at the net.

Lady Vikings fall to Fremont, drop first Region 1 game

In a battle of Region 1 undefeated teams, Viewmont and Fremont squared off for the first time in three years last Thursday afternoon.

It was a tightly contested game throughout, and Fremont’s Hannah Loftus scored the only goal of the game to keep Fremont unbeaten in Region 1 play.

The loss for Viewmont was its first region loss in girls’ soccer since the team lost to Syracuse on Oct. 6, 2010.

Woods Cross drops soccer match to East

In a close battle, East turned a 2-1 lead into a 5-1 victory thanks to scoring three goals in the final six minutes of the match. It was East’s third region win.

Eden Jacobsen accounted for the Lady Wildcats’ only goal, which closed the deficit to 2-1 by the end of the first half.

Five players scored a goal each for the Leopards in the win.

It was the second straight loss for the Lady Wildcats in Region 6 play.

Upcoming games

Woods Cross and Bountiful will battle for the first time in this season Thursday night at 7 p.m.

After battling Syracuse Tuesday, Viewmont will head to Northridge to face the Knights in Region 1, and Davis will face Fremont at Fremont High School the same day.

Those games will start at 3:30 p.m.

Editor’s note: scores and statistics were reported by the local teams.
