As you know, the new city hall project has been put on hold. The newspapers put it well: (Clipper: “City hall plans on hold after public outcry,” and SL Tribune: “Bountiful delays new city hall project for further study”).
But, the matter will be brought up again in city council, and we need to strengthen the resolve of those who voted for the more conservative plan. Particularly, we need to thank Councilman Tom Tolman for voting with us. It was not easy for him to switch his vote, but he did, and I am very grateful for that. So, please, just as you emailed or called to request his vote on behalf of a less expensive plan, now call or email him to thank him for his vote.
Tom Tolman: 801-292-1981, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you wish to thank the other two who voted similarly, contact Fred Moss at 801-295-9353, email@example.com or Richard Higginson at 801-554-5173, firstname.lastname@example.org.
It was also good of Mayor Johnson to put the matter on the agenda and to allow public comments. His email: email@example.com.
The opinion of councilmembers is that it was the presence of so many people at the meeting and the strong comments people made in favor of a less costly approach that swayed the vote. It was also helpful that two former mayors (Bob Linnell and John Cushing) and former council member Barbara Holt publicly endorsed a less costly plan.
So, my personal thanks for being there, speaking, or e-mailing or phoning. It made the difference.
Now, on to the next phase: getting the less costly plan actually approved by the council.
