WOODS CROSS — It was a good week for at least half of the high school football teams in south Davis County.
Davis and Bountiful won their games over Syracuse and Clearfield, respectively.
The Darts worked hard to collect the Region 1 win, sealing a 21-7 win over the Titans.
The Braves also picked up a win with a 44-7 victory that saw Tanner Redding catch three touchdowns.
In other region openers, Viewmont and Woods Cross lost to Northridge and East, respectively, by big margins.
Penalty-filled game ends with Davis win over Syracuse, 21-7
In a game that had 17 accepted penalties and a trio of turnovers, the Darts pulled out a 21-7 win thanks to a game-sealing fumble recovery for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
After Davis was forced to a three-and-out with more than three minutes remaining in the game, the Darts punted and got their defense prepared for what they hoped to be the final drive.
After Syracuse took the punt, the returner fumbled the ball. Davis’ Aaron Becker picked it up and returned 54 yards for the touchdown, with 2:57 remaining in the game.
Parker Rose and Abel Porter scored touchdowns for the Darts in the win.
Syracuse’s Kole Tracy connected with Josh Thalman in the first quarter for the Titans’ only touchdown.
Braves thump Falcons in Region 6 opener, 44-7
The Bountiful High School football team had another bounce-back week to remember.
Tanner Redding had three receiving touchdowns, picked off a Clearfield pass, and the Braves rolled to a 44-7 victory to open Region 6 play.
Redding’s touchdowns were scored from 27, 29, and 30 yards away. The Braves’ Sam Merrill in defense scored on a fumble recovery by before the first half ended.
Bountiful put the “running clock” rule into place early in the second half. The Braves scored their final touchdown with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
East runs over Woods Cross, 42-6
The Woods Cross High School football team held its first three opponents to 41 combined points to open the season.
Friday night at East High School, the Wildcats surrendered 42 points in a 42-6 loss.
The Wildcats allowed touchdowns of 65, 60, 74 and 59 yards to the Leopards before scoring their only touchdown of the game in the third quarter.
Northridge roughs up Viewmont, 47-7
The Viewmont Vikings football team lost their third straight game Friday, and were rudely welcomed back to Region 1 after taking a 47-7 loss at the hands of Northridge High School.
Riley Rohloff scored the Vikings only touchdown in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run.
The Vikings have allowed 40-plus points to each of their last three opponents.
