BOUNTIFUL — As region races continue for all of Utah’s high schools, Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross girls’ soccer teams keep picking up wins.
Last Thursday, all three won their respective region matches as Viewmont downed Layton, Bountiful beat Judge Memorial and Woods Cross downed Cyprus.
Vikings pick up 2-1 win over tough Layton squad
The Vikings girls’ soccer team extended their winning streak to five games last Thursday, beating Layton in a tough 2-1 game.
Abbie Flandro, the team’s leading scorer, kicked in her eighth goal of the season in the game. Montana Tanner picked up her second goal of the season in the win, and Bailee Hammond allowed the single goal at the net.
The Vikings’ only loss during region play came against Fremont, which is still in first place.
The two teams battled each other Tuesday afternoon.
Braves blank Judge Memorial, 2-0
The Braves girls’ soccer team extended their winning streak to three games after blanking the Bulldogs 2-0 last Thursday.
Sophia Skedros and Abby McConkie scored a goal each for the Braves. Bountiful scored a single goal in each half, and Charity Cole picked up the shutout at the net.
Cole’s last three games have all ended in shutouts.
Wildcats shut out Pirates 8-0 to stay in region race
Coming off a tough 3-2 win over Highland last Tuesday, the Woods Cross girls’ soccer team beat the Cyprus Pirates 8-0 to claim the season sweep.
Ashlyn Farnes did the majority of the scoring for Woods Cross, netting five goals in the win. Kyra Fawcett, Malorie Ward and Maura Callahan each scored a goal as well.
The win was Woods Cross’ fourth in a row.
Games this week
After battling Fremont for first place in Region 1, the Vikings hit the road to take on Syracuse Thursday afternoon.
Davis will face Layton at Layton High School.
In Region 6, the Lady Braves will face Clearfield at home, and Woods Cross will face Judge Memorial on the road.
All games will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
