BOUNTIFUL — The Woods Cross volleyball team kept its winning streak going Thursday after taking down Cyprus in straight sets.
Bountiful also earned a win, beating Highland 3-0 in Region 6 play.
Viewmont, however, is still without a win in Region 1 play, dropping a hard-fought battle with Northridge Thursday afternoon.
Wildcats keep rolling, beat Pirates in straight sets
Woods Cross extended its Region 6 winning streak to seven games last Thursday, beating Cyprus 3-0 (25-6, 25-11, 25-8) to improve to 8-0 on the season.
The Wildcats were led by a Lexi Lewis, Bryli Knell, McKenzie Bird and Kacie Hirano, among others, in the victory.
In all but two of its wins, Woods Cross has beaten its opponent in straight sets. The only match that went to five sets was against Bountiful on Sept. 24.
Bountiful downs Highland, 3-0
The Lady Braves won their sixth Region 6 match last Thursday after taking down the Rams of Highland High School.
The Lady Braves defense led a strong charge in the first two sets, not allowing Highland to score more than 12 points in either set.
Bountiful fought hard in the third set, but eventually won 25-21 to claim the sweep.
The win leaves the Braves two full games behind region-leading Woods Cross.
Lady Vikings still winless in Region 1, lose to Northridge 3-0
Despite all their efforts to extend the match to a fourth game, the Viewmont Vikings volleyball team was downed in three sets by Northridge last Thursday.
The Lady Vikings fell behind early in the first set, scoring only 12 points. They had an early lead in the second set, but lost 25-16 to the Knights to fall behind 2-0.
In the final set, the Lady Vikings fought to get the score to 24-all before Northridge put away the match with a 26-24 score.
Viewmont is 7-10 overall this season, but are 0-8 in Region 1 play in its return to the region.
The Davis Darts will be the only team to hit the volleyball court this week as they take on Weber Friday afternoon at Weber High School.
Viewmont will face Syracuse on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at home.
In Region 6, Woods Cross will travel to Highland High School to battle the Rams, and Bountiful will travel to Kearns to face the Cougars.
Both matches will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
