BOUNTIFUL — St. Olaf Council of Women will celebrate Council Sunday on Oct. 20, by passing out pink carnations in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The carnations are intended as a reminder to women to get their mammogram.

Council Sunday is a day to celebrate the Council of Catholic Women groups throughout the Catholic Diocese of Utah. The Saint Olaf Altar Society, as it was originally named, was formed in 1947.

Discussion groups were frequent, friendly and informal, according to a press release.

Currently, the council is free and open to all women in the parish 18 years and older.

The council’s mission is to support, empower and educate all women in spirituality, leadership and service. Among the council’s projects are: Christmas stocking stuffer, meals to parishioners in need, coffee and donuts, funeral receptions, altar flowers, cards sent by the parish’s “Sunshine Girl”, Saint Martha’s Baby Project and the annual luncheon.
