LAYTON – The Davis High School Darts football team continued its winning ways Thursday night in an important Region 1 game against Northridge at Northridge High School.

Powered by a slew of mistakes from Northridge, the Darts took advantage of five Knights turnovers in a 27-13 win.

The win for Davis marks its seventh straight.

The first turnover from Davis turned into a touchdown for the Darts, giving them a 6-0 lead. On the play, Davis’ punt was fumbled by Northridge’s return man. Kamerson Perkins of Davis scooped up the fumble on the 37 yard line, and returned the ball for a touchdown.

Northridge responded by recovering a fumble from Davis, giving them possession at the Davis 37-yard line. Two plays later the game was tied on a one-yard run by Dayan Lake*.

The Knights took the lead early in the second quarter when quarterback Ben Jackson found Houston Lacey for a 36-yard touchdown, making the score 13-6. On the very next play following the kickoff, Davis quarterback Colton Chronister found Abel Porter for an 80-yard catch-and-run touchdown, tying the game at 13 with 8:23 remaining in the first half.

Chronister’s legs helped the Darts take the lead late in the fourth quarter, scampering for 67 yards to help set up Mason White’s four-yard touchdown run. The score gave the Darts a 20-13 lead with 3:31 left in the game.

Davis picked up its final turnover of the game on Northridge’s final drive in the game. After the Knights reached the Darts’ 39 yard line, Davis defensive back Matt Morrell intercepted Jackson’s pass, returning the ball to the Northridge two yard line.

Two plays later, Parker Rose scored on a five yard touchdown run.

Davis ran for a total of 145 yards under very wet conditions Thursday night. Chronister’s run late in the game accounted for most of them, and the quarterback finished with 96 yards rushing on 18 carries.

He also threw for 112 yards on just 5-of-12 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Porter’s 80-yard touchdown was his only catch in the game.

Davis Hanson led the defense with 10 total tackles. Jayden Bott and Aaron Becker had seven tackles each. Chandler Rudolph had two sacks.

Davis’ defense has allowed 14 or fewer points in all seven of its games this season.

The Darts will face the Layton Lancers on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Davis High School. Northridge’s next game isn’t until Friday, Oct. 25 against the Lancers.
