RSL’s Velasquez to be featured at ‘Equity’ night

LAYTON — Sebastian Velasquez, a midfielder for Real Salt Lake, will be the keynote speaker at a special evening event at Northridge High on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The evening is focused on closing the achievement gap for minority students and is sponsored by the Davis School District Parent Equity Committee. It is free and open to the public.

Valesquez, who is originally from Colombia, will address the topic of Healthy Minds and Healthy Bodies.

The evening will also feature dancers from the Latinos in Action program at Northridge, in addition to Native American dancers from Layton High and Central Davis Junior High, a multi-cultural choir and orchestra, and Haka dancers.

An exhibit highlighting native American Rock Art, entitled Sacred Images, will also be on display. The display is sponsored by the Center of Documentary Expression and Art.

A social hour starts at 5 p.m., with performances, exhibits and the unveiling of a student mural. The formal program, with Valesquez as speaker, begins at 6 p.m. Presentations go until 7:30 p.m. Northridge High is located at 2430 N. 400 West in Layton.
