FEARLESS FORECAST

By Shain Gillet

The fearless forecaster had a promising week to look forward to before games kicked off last Friday.

However, losses by both Bountiful and Davis meant one thing: only Woods Cross remains as the lone Davis County high school in either playoff bracket.

They really are the only team left from the county, too. Syracuse, the No. 2 seed behind Davis, lost to Lone Peak 21-13. Northridge’s loss to Riverton and Layton’s loss to Herriman left no one standing in the 5A bracket.

Woods Cross will; however, be at home again this week.

Without any more delay, here goes.

Woods Cross: 35

Salem Hills: 21

Salem Hills pulled off a slight upset over Orem last week, but Orem was one of those teams that played well within its region while playing rather poorly outside of it.

Case in point: the Tigers were 5-1 and claimed the No. 1 seed from Region 7, but were 0-5 outside of region play.

Had the Skyhawks opened the first round against say, Olympus, this week’s game would have a different story behind it.

Woods Cross is still one of the hottest teams in the state right now. Winners of seven straight games, the Wildcats still haven’t allowed more than 21 points to any opponent except for East.

The defense is good, and the secondary was solid last week in the blowout victory over Box Elder last week.

Also of note: the Wildcats haven’t lost a home game this season.

Home field advantage will serve the team well as they prepare for Friday night’s kickoff.

A win Friday means a date in the semi-finals for the first time since 1993.

Until next time.
