Crime Briefs: Woman to serve jail time

FARMINGTON – A Clearfield woman was sentenced to serve a year in the Davis County Jail after pleading guilty to six third-degree felony counts of uttering a false prescription.

Shaundra Avalos, 36 was in 2nd District Court, where Judge David Hamilton suspended six terms of up to five years each in the Utah State Prison for the jail time and three years probation.

Avalos was given 45 days credit for time served and was told she can enter a substance abuse program.

Avalos was arrested by the Davis Metro Narcotics Strike Force in April and 12 counts of falsely obtaininprescrpitions were filed. 

In June, Avalos pleaded guilty to two of the Weber County charges and six Davis County charges. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss the remaining charges.

Then, on Oct. 25, the Davis County Attorney’s Office filed 15 additional third-degree felony counts of making or uttering a false prescription against Avalos.
