FARMINGTON – A woman who allegedly stole $58,000 from her employer pleaded not guilty last week to 10 felonies and two misdemeanors.

Tara Lee Burdick, 45, is accused of stealing the money from Chariot Auto Sales in Clearfield where she worked.

She was in 2nd District Court last week to enter not guilty pleas  to five counts of communications fraud, two of them second-degree felonies, one a third-degree felony and two of them are misdemeanors. She is also charged with seven counts of third-degree felony forgery.

Clearfield police arrested Burdick in July after the company’s bank called the owner to report “some suspicious activity” on  the account. Police allege Burdick had written at least 15 checks amounting to $58,000 over the course of a year.

Charges filed in August allege that she wrote 17 checks in May and June, signed her supervisor’s name and the cashed the checks, using the money “for her personal benefit.”

Additional charges filed in September claim Burdick wrote checks between April and December 2011 and allegedly told her supervisor they were “for legitimate vehicle payoffs for the business.”

Burdick worked for Chariot Auto Sales for 13 years.
