FRUIT HEIGHTS — The kittens who were thrown from a moving vehicle on I-15 on Oct. 30 have died.

The two, both males, were initially reported in pretty good shape after being rescued, but they died of feline distemper.

The two were recovering and awaiting adoption through the Community Animal Welfare Society (CAWS) shelter when they died Nov. 8. A spokeswoman for the group said the kittens had weakened immune systems because of the disease and the stress of being thrown from the car may have made the condition worse.

The case against whoever threw the kittens from the car is continuing, according to Tracy Roddom, shelter supervisor for Davis County Animal Control.

“The case is still ongoing,” Roddom said, adding she hopes whoever threw the cats from the car is caught.

A combined reward of $7,500 is being offered by the. National and Utah Humane Societies for the arrest and conviction of those involved. Anyone with information is asked to call  Davis County Animal Control at 801-444-2200.
