Dear Editor,

On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Republican Party State Central Committee will select three individuals whose names will be submitted to the governor for consideration to be appointed as the new Attorney General of the State of Utah.

It is my purpose with this letter to appeal to your readers to contact their representatives on the State Central Committee in support of the appointment of Brent Ward as the Attorney General for Utah.

I have known Brent Ward for more than 20 years. I am well acquainted with his service as the former United States Attorney for the State of Utah and as a senior official in the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.

There is not another person in the State of Utah who is as well prepared and as qualified to be the attorney general as is Brent Ward.   Please take the time to carefully review the incredible array of experience and training that make Brent Ward the most qualified person in the state to serve as our attorney general.

In the U. S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., Brent Ward served as the Director of the Anti-Pornography task force.  He is currently one of the senior attorneys in the office of the U.S. Attorney for Utah. Before going to Washington, D.C. to serve in the U.S. Department of Justice, he served two four-year terms as the U.S. Attorney for Utah.

Brent is a man of the highest personal integrity and dignity.  He is not a flamboyant politician but he is an unflinching advocate for dignity and decency in our society.  He is an indefatigable opponent of the powerful advocates of the vulgar and the obscene.  Our families and our state could never have a greater champion for the preservation of our cultural heritage.

It is my urgent request to the representatives of Davis County on the Republican State Central Committee that they vote to recommend Brent Ward to be our next Attorney General.

John L. Harmer
