All-state teams include Davis scholars

BOUNTIFUL – For their success in both athletics and academics, a number of Davis County students were named to the Utah High School Activities Association’s Academic All-State teams.

In golf, Taggart Steele from Davis High, Kurt Bell from Layton High, Kelton Hirsch of Viewmont and Josh Stratford of Woods Cross received the honor.

Trenton Behunin and Joseph Gillespie of Layton, Zachary Griffin and Cody Kelley of Syracuse, and Hunter Jensen of Woods Cross were named to the honor in boys’ cross country. 

In girls’ cross country, Sierra Chowen of Viewmont, Caitlin Steed of Clearfield, Rebecca Jacobsen of Syracuse, Samantha Caruso of Bountiful, and Anna Peterson and Jennesa Coleman of Woods Cross earned the award designation.

Volleyball players Lauren Merrill, Madeline Luczak and Meredith Luczak were named to the academic team from Viewmont.

Maren Cline of Woods Cross, Sara Jones of Bountiful and Nena Fillmore of Viewmont made the team in girls’ tennis. 

Football players on the academic all-state team include Jackson Craythorne of Syracuse, Clayton Jorgensen and Trevor Lloyd of Bountiful, and Luke Jowers and Samuel Cottam of Woods Cross.

Girls’ soccer honorees are Sara Harper of Viewmont and Ellie Penner and Kenslee Doman of Clearfield.
