BRIGHAM CITY — The Woods Cross Wildcats used the momentum they gained with Friday’s win over rival Bountiful High as the Cats went north and pounded out two wins over Box Elder in Brigham City Saturday afternoon.
“It’s important that we keep moving in the right direction,” Woods Cross coach Paul Ayala said after Friday’s win. “It’s important that we go to Box Elder and get those games.”
Ayala had to be pleased as his team outscored the host Bees 16-5 in the two games played on the new field in Brigham City.
“The guys are playing well and are working well together,” Ayala had said. “It’s great to see.”
In the first game Austin Bankowski went the distance and the bats came alive as the Wildcats thumped Box Elder 10-3.
Holdon Critchley showed that he is more than a pitching ace for the Cats as he became a thorn in the side of the Bees with a two-run home run in the third that started the route.
In the second game, played an hour later it was Nate Chambers who shut down the Bees with four strong innings as Woods Cross won, 6-2.
Critchley continued his tear as he smacked a double and another home run for Woods Cross for his team.
“We just need to keep winning,” Ayala said.
