“Thankful For My Pet” winner Andrew Somers was honored by the Davis County Animal Care & Control Department for her winning essay. The Woods Cross Elementary student wrote about her dog Macie. She’s pictured with Education Officer Brigitte Draper. Some 355 entries were received for the essay/art contest. Entries were judged on creativity and “heartfelt appreciation for their pets,” said Animal Control Director Clint Thacker. Runners up were Rachel Ferguson and Melanie Quintanilla, both from Ellison Park Elementary in Layton.
