CLEARFIELD — A man has died of injuries sustained in an automobile-pedestrian accident at the Freeport Center on Monday morning.

Robert Benton, 67, of Kaysville, was run over by a pickup truck that had been backing down a loading ramp at Benton Packaging about 8:22 a.m., according to Clearfield Assistant Police Chief Mike Stenquist. Benton was co-owner of the company.

The driver of the pickup was backing down a ramp that is shared by Benton Packaging and Freeport West Storage when the accident occurred.

Benton was initially treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital with leg and shoulder injuries, Stenquist said. At the hospital, it was determined Benton had serious internal injuries to his chest. He died early Tuesday morning.

The accident is under investigation by Clearfield Police and the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office.
