As this year comes to a close it is also the end of an era for Tom Tolman. I am genuinely grateful for the privilege that has been mine to serve the citizens of Bountiful for the past 12 years as your councilman.
When I retired from my business in 1999 I had no intention of becoming involved in public office. I was content to be writing my family histories and restoring old vehicles. I could have never imagined how my life would change since that first day in office in January of 2001.
We have accomplished much good for the citizens of our small community during those 12 years and I feel humble and honored to have been a part of those changes.
I want to personally thank all those that have supported me and the council during these years and for your vote of confidence that I would do the best in helping Bountiful move forward and become a better place to live and raise our families.
I have rubbed shoulders with some very fine people during the past 12 years and made some new friends that have had an influence for good in my life.
One of my goals while in office was to help our community become more aware of its rich history and to establish a museum where children and their parents could visit and learn about the early days of Bountiful and about the people that helped make Bountiful what it is today.
I feel good about what we have been able to achieve in making the history of our communities more readily available to all who want to learn about the early days of Bountiful. We missed building our new museum, but we are much closer than we have been in the past and I am committed to still make a home for our history to become a reality. It needs to happen, and it will happen with the right support.
My personal love for Bountiful and my pioneer ancestors who helped settle this fine farming community has increased beyond measure and I have learned more about them and I have gained an understanding of who they were and what they did better than ever before.
This experience has been a blessing in my life and my children’s life to be living here and enjoying the friends and neighbors that make this such a wonderful place to live.
Thanks again for allowing me to give back after living here my entire life and I am very thankful that I was never intimately acquainted with Turner Burningham’s signature while I was growing up in Bountiful as a teenager.
I give my whole hearted support to our new mayor and new council members along with my colleagues that are still serving. If I can be of any assistance in the future please know that I am here and will help any way I can to continue to serve the citizens of Bountiful.
It is indeed the “City of Beautiful Homes & Gardens;” and is the best managed city in the state of Utah. I will miss my friends and colleagues.
