FARMINGTON - The teenage victim of sexual abuse at the hands of a former girl’s basketball coach is not happy with the plea deal offered her abuser.

Stephen Paul Niedzwiecki, 34, of Kaysville, pleaded guilty in 2nd District Court Thursday after the Davis County Attorney’s Office amended the charges to reflect that the position of “special trust,” applied to educators did not statutorily apply since the victim was no longer his student when the sexual abuse occurred.

However, the victim in the case, now a student at Weber State University, was not happy with the plea deal and said she will read a victim impact statement at Niedzwiecki’s sentencing that is set for March 21.

She has also become involved in two non-profit organizations helping those who have been sexually abused.

Niedzwiecki faces a prison sentence of up to five years on each count.
