LAYTON- Police say a man who assaulted a woman in her car was arrested after he was unable to drive the victim's car -- because it had a manual transmission.

According to Layton Police, an 18-year-old woman was stopped on Oak Hills Drive waiting to turn north on Highway 89 when 29-year-old Kyle Douglas Booher approached her vehicle on foot.

Police say Booher entered the vehicle before the woman could get the doors locked.

One inside, police say Booher choked the woman and pushed her head against the driver's side window before calming down and asking for a ride.

That's when police say the alleged victim jumped out of the car and ran away.

According to police, Booher then tried to drive away, but was unable to negotiate using the car's manual transmission.

Police say Booher then started to follow the victim when a 30-year-old Layton resident witnessed the incident and drove to the woman drove to the female and gave her a ride to a convenience store on Highway 89.

Davis County Deputies were in the area, and confronted Booher as he was following the victim.

Police say Booher struggled and was forced to the ground before he was taken into custody.

Booher was transported to the Layton Police Department, where he was checked by medical personnel for minor injuries. Police say the suspect may have been under the influence of drugs, and refused to talk with investigators.

The victim was also treated for minor injuries and was united with family members.

Booher was booked into Davis County Jail for Robbery (Felony 2), Aggravated Assault (Felony 3), and Interfering with Arresting Officers (Class B Misdemeanor).
