WOODS CROSS – Bountiful sophomore Kennedy Redding has been so disruptive for her opponents, they hardly know how to shoot around her.

Standing at 6-feet four inches tall, Redding was able to stop Woods Cross from getting any decent shots inside the paint. Her intimidating height, combined with a 17 point, 15 rebound game, helped the Lady Braves pick up a 63-41 win with one game left in the regular season.

“Not many teams in the state have that height,” said Lady Braves coach Joel Burton. “It’s been a big difference maker. You can’t teach height.”

Woods Cross and Bountiful kept the game close through the first quarter, and Bountiful took a 12-10 lead. In the second quarter; however, Bountiful scored 21 points to take a 10-point lead after the first half. Tiana Dougher, has been one of the team leaders in scoring all season, had 16 points in the first half, and the duo of Redding and Dougher combined for 24 of Bountiful’s 33 first half points.

“When they get going, they’ve been awful tough for anybody to stop,” Burton said. “We’ve challenged some of the others to step up their game as well. They proved to be a tough match-up against Woods Cross tonight.”

Bountiful’s scoring remained consistent in the second half, scoring 11 and 19 points in the third and fourth quarter, respectively. Bountiful’s defense remained tough to penetrate in the closing quarter, not allowing the Wildcats to score its first bucket until 4:50 remaining in the game.

Dougher scored 27 points and had three rebounds in the win. Aubree Riddle scored 13 points and Halle Smith added 10 points in the loss.

Bountiful’s last game of the season will be Tuesday against Highland at Highland High School. A win would guarantee Bountiful at least a share of the Region 6 crown.

“I’m excited about it because we can control our own destiny,” Burton said. “I like that challenge (of getting a region title) and I know the girls like that challenge as well. I just want us to go down and prove that we can fix some of the things that we struggled with in the first game.”

Tip off for Tuesday’s game is 5:15 p.m.
