FARMINGTON - A preliminary hearing has been set for April 9 for the man accused of causing the death of his girlfriend’s 1-year-old daughter.

Tyler Ryan Geary, 25, of Layton, is charged with first-degree felony child homicide. If convicted, he could face from five years to life in the Utah State Prison.

In November, Geary entered a not guilty plea in the death of Aliyah Faye Wild, who died on Sept. 17, 2013 at Primary Children’s Medical Center after being flown there on Sept. 10. That morning, the baby’s mother and Geary took the girl to Davis Hospital and Medical Center.

Court documents say the girl’s injuries were “consistent with head trauma inflicted from shaking.” Surgery removed a portion of the girl’s skull to reduce pressure on the brain from swelling.

Geary allegedly admitted to police he had shaken the baby, “to get her to stop crying.”
