BOUNTIFUL – Davis County women are invited to participate in either of two World Day of Prayer celebrations hosted by Church Women United.
This year’s theme is “Streams in the Desert,” authored by women of the United Methodist Church in Egypt, according to information provided by CWU.
The Greater Ogden Area Unit of Church Women United is hosting its celebration on Saturday, March 8 at Elim Lutheran Church, 575 23rd Street in Ogden.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with the program beginning at 10 a.m. Cost is $4. Lunch will be a pot luck and participants are asked to provide a side dish or dessert as they are able.
The unit is also holding an outreach for the Pack N’ Pounce Animal Shelter, collecting canned goods for Catholic Community Services and collecting box tops and Campbell’s labels for Dee Elementary School in Ogden.
The Greater Salt Lake City Area Unit is hosting its celebration on Friday, March 14 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 450 E. 2100 South.
Again, registration will be at 9:30 a.m., with the program and lunch running from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Registration costs $1 and lunch will be $4.
The unit’s community outreach includes items for Primary Children’s Medical Center, such as shorts, T-shirts and underwear for boys and girls in all sizes.

World Day of Prayer, generally celebrated on the first Friday of March each year, is a worldwide movement of Christian women that began in the United States and Canada in the 19th century and became worldwide in 1927.
The day’s continuing motto is “Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action,” according to CWU.
Today, both men and women in more than 170 countries around the world participate.
