Late last month, a group of elementary-age boys found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in a field at 400 South in Fruit Heights.
One of them picked it up, pointed it a wooden fence and pulled the trigger, according to Davis County Sheriff’s Sgt. Susan Poulsen.
The gun didn’t go off, but when the boy lowered it, the gun did go off into the dirt.
At that point the boys told an adult, who unloaded it and called the sheriff’s office.
The gun is not an antique, but a newer weapon in useable condition, Poulsen said.
Anyone missing a handgun should call 801-451-41450 to identify it.
