FARMINGTON - New trial dates of Sept. 29-Oct. 3 were set Wednesday, March 4, for Shannon Ryan Sander, accused of stabbing Michael Dunn in Bountiful in 2012.

Sander was in court where her attorney Mark Arrington asked for a continuance to talk to new witnesses who have come forward and experts who could help his client.

Second District Judge David Conners granted the continuance, but said it will be the last one he grants. Sander’s trial had been set to run March 31-April 4.

Deputy Davis County Attorney Steve Major said those close to the victim are anxious to proceed.

Sander, 45, allegedly killed Dunn, 55 on Feb. 21, 2012 in his Bountiful apartment, where she had been staying.

Police investigators who testified at a preliminary hearing in September said Sander told them she had stabbed Dunn because he kept groping her, and that she acted in self-defense.

Sander told police she and Dunn had known each other for 12 years, and that for the past six the relationship had been platonic. That day, however, Dunn wanted more than she wanted to give.

Dunn suffered one stab wound to the chest, Utah Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Edward Leis said at the preliminary hearing.
