SUNSET -- Police recovered a Sunset police vehicle in Ogden Sunday evening that was allegedly taken by a suspect in a residential burglary earlier in the day. They also took the suspect into custody.

Nathan Ward, 26, Sunset, was arrested about 5:45 p.m. Sunday near 24th and Lincoln, in Ogden, after police found the 2014 Dodge Durango police vehicle he allegedly stole nearby.

Sunset Police Sgt. Brett Jamison said Ward and another suspect had been taken into custody shortly after noon for an alleged residential vehicle in Sunset. Ward had been placed in the backseat of the Durango that was not equipped with a cage and was also unmarked.

The officer left Ward in the vehicle momentarily He was somehow able to get his handcuffs in front, jump the vehicle's backseat and drive away, Jamison said.

Ward allegedly contacted his parents about an hour later and told them he had ditched the SUV in Salt Lake County.
