BOUNTIFUL – A Utah businessman, who hopes to build a to-scale model of Qumran near the Great Salt Lake, will be the guest speaker of the Centerville chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.

Marcus Southworth, CEO of Southworth International, LLC., will speak at the April dinner meeting of the SUP on April 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wight House Reception Center, 95 N. Main, in Bountiful. The meeting is open to the public and the cost of the meal is $12.50. Non-members should call 801-292-2634 for reservations.

Southworth recently founded The Second Qumran Foundation that proposes to build the model of the Qumran community where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, near the “Second Dead Sea,” the Great Salt Lake.

Qumran was an ancient community of Orthodox Jews who lived near the Dead Sea and is the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1946.

The foundation intends to build a revitalized Qumran that will serve as a model and academic center for the preservation, analysis and publication of ancient religious documents from around the world, according to a SUP press release.

Southworth is also the founder and chairman of the International Foundation for Civil Society that focuses on improving understanding between people and cultures.

As a businessman, Southworth has developed a domestic and international network of relationships with government officials, financial institutions, banking and industry professionals , gaining first-hand experience with commercial, political and government issues, projects and people throughout the world, acording to the press release.

He served as an advisor to the Ministry of Defense in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, as well as a financial and business advisor to the president of Ghana.
