BOUNTIFUL -- A suspect who shot two people in their car Friday night and fled into a Bountiful apartment complex is still at large and police are asking the public's help in locating him.

Police received a 911 call at 10:55 p.m. Friday night from the victims who reported they had been shot while driving past apartments near 2200 S. Orchard Drive. They were driving themselves to Lakeview Hospital when they called, according to Bountiful Police Lt. Dave Edwards.

The victims, Matthew Bennion and Stephanie Smith, were later transferred to the University of Utah Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A 3-year-old passenger in the vehicle was not injured.

At the scene, officers found a witness who told police he saw a man in dark clothing fire shots at the vehicle, then run into the apartment complex. Officers at the hospital found several bullet holes in the car, Edwards said.

Police SWAT team members were called to the apartment complex to search for the suspect, but have so far found no sign of him.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bountiful Police at 801-298-6000.
