BOUNTIFUL -  If you’ve got talent, now is the perfect time to share it.

Sign-ups are now open for this year’s Bountiful’s Got Talent auditions, set for April 23 and 24 from 6-8 p.m. and April 26 from noon-4 p.m. at the Joy Foundation building. Slots are open to all ages and talents, though all applicants must have some tie to Bountiful.

“It’s an open call, so we never know who’s going to show up,” said Brad Johnson, a member of the Bountiful Community Service Council who helps organize the event. “We’ve had performers as young as 8 years-old, and as old as 92.”

All performances must be family friendly, and performers must either have gone to school in Bountiful, grown up here, live here currently or have family still living here. After the auditions, judges will select 12 finalists who will be notified.

“If you strike the fancy of the judges, you’ll be included,” said Johnson.

All 12 finalists will perform at a dress rehearsal June 19, where final winners will be selected. All 12 performers will also perform the next night, where cash prizes will  be awarded. First place wins $300, second place wins $200, and third place wins $100.

“We’ve had a cellist, a dancer, and a couple of singers win,” said Johnson. “It’s all just wonderful.”

For those who might be nervous about risking their talents under the stage lights, Johnson recommends trying your hand at the open mic nights held the second and fourth Saturdays of every month at the Joy Foundation. For those looking to audition, there’s one scheduled for April 12 from 6-8 p.m.

“It’s a wonderful thing,” said Johnson. “A lot of people don’t have practice working with microphones or hearing their voice projected through speakers, so it’s good to come give it a try.”

The Joy Foundation is located at 34 E. 400 South in Bountiful. For more information or to find out how to get an application, call 801-295-4976, 801-688-1717, or e-mail parkconcerts@bountiful.utah.gov.

“There’s a lot of talent out there, but in Bountiful there’s not as much opportunity to get up and perform as we’d like,” said Johnson. “This is a great opportunity.”
