BOUNTIFUL - A 25-year-old Layton man accused in the shaking death of his girlfriend’s baby, has been ordered to stand trial.
Tyler Ryan Geary, 25, will be arraigned on April 17, in the death of 1-year-old Aliyah Wild. The baby was flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center on Sept. 10, 2013. She died seven days later.
Geary is charged with first-degree felony abuse homicide in the baby’s death.
Geary was in 2nd District Court in Bountiful on Monday where Judge Thomas Kay ruled that there was enough evidence to go to trial.
In November, Geary entered a not guilty plea.
At Monday’s preliminary hearing, Layton Det. Eric Smith testified that the baby was taken to Davis Hospital and Medical Center with a brain injury and was then flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center.
Court documents say the baby’s injuries were “consistent with head trauma inflicted from shaking.” Surgery removed a portion of her skull to reduce pressure on the brain from swelling.
Geary allegedly admitted to police he had shaken the baby, “to get her to stop crying.”
