Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes such as U.S. 89 or Legacy Parkway, or mass transit.
The project, that will add express lanes and replace bridges from North Salt Lake to Farmington, is expected to last 16 months, with work being done both night and day.
Throughout the corridor travel lanes will be narrowed to 11 inches and lanes will follow changing patterns with lanes open through the duration of the project, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
Between April 21-24 crews will also be sealing cracks on U.S. 89 from 1000 North to 500 South in Bountiful, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. daily.
This will be a moving operation, with lanes closed in the immediate area of the work. Motorists should slow down and move to the open lane as soon as they see signs indicating work ahead.
