WOODS CROSS – The Davis Darts track and field team swept the competition in Friday’s Wildcat Invitational at Woods Cross High School.
The girls’ team won with a score of 223 points, more than 100 points better than second place Syracuse. On the boy’s side, the Wildcats were the closest competitor to Davis during the meet, placing second with 140 points.
The Darts scored 210 points, giving the entire team 433 combined points. Syracuse High School, by virtue of its second place on the girls’ side, finished second overall with 245.5 points. The Wildcats placed third as a team with 200.5 points.
The Lady Darts took home numerous first place finishes on their way to victory. In the 4x100 relay the tandem of Olivia Richards, Elise Berning, Sarah Beecher and Rachel Anderson crossed the finish line in with a time of 50.27. Woods Cross’s Ashleigh Townsend, Cassidy Strohn, Morgan Tate and Haley Stafford finished second by .77 seconds.
Other Darts finishing in first place include Melanie Sullivan (400 meter), Jordan Barnett (300 meter hurdles), and Sam Hedquist (3200 meter). The Darts relay teams took home first place honors in the 4x400, the sprint medley relay, and the 4x800 relay events.
Individual male bests were Nate Allred in the high jump and Josh Ward in the 1600 meter race. Allred took home a second place finish and Ward crossed the finish line first for the Darts.
Ward’s time of 4:25.28 was two seconds better than Woods Cross’s Taylor Dillon, who finished second with a time of 4:27.88. Ward’s teammate Stokton Smith placed fourth and Dillon’s teammates Andrew Rummens and Jacob Stone finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Woods Cross had its share of first placers as well. Cam Dopp topped Syracuse’s Colten Yardley and Karson Nielson in the 110 meter hurdles, and the 4x100 team of Chandler Judd, Sean Gallagher, Xequille Harry and Nate Benson finished first by .2 seconds over Northridge.
