The Viewmont Vikings aren’t too shabby either. The Vikings lost in overtime to Judge, one of the better teams in Utah and like the Braves boast one of the state’s best goalies.
So when the two teams met on Wednesday afternoon, something had to give.
The Vikings were down just 2-1 before, like a year ago in a close first half, Bountiful scored with four seconds to before before half to push the lead to 3-1.
In the second half it was all Bountiful as the Braves wound up winning 11-1.
“They don’t really have any weaknesses,” said Viewmont coach Brad Isenhour. “They had moved Christian Taylor and we thought that would help us on defense.”
“It didn’t do much for us.”
Taylor finished the game with two goals and an assist.
“I thought we played real well today,” said Bountiful coach Marty Wescott. “It’s probably the best overall game we’ve played all year.”
The Braves were up 2-0 when Viewmont’s Corey Hoddenbach scored to cut the lead to 2-1.
That was as close as Viewmont would get and the Braves defenders were proud of that fact.
“It’s all about the defense,” said Bountiful’s fierce defender Jake Folkerson. “We like to shut teams down.”
The fact that Bountiful goalie Parker Marsden had to turn away less than five shots is evident to the strong defensive play.
“I had a pretty good game but the defense was great today,” Marsden said. “I’ve been working on improving since the game when I didn’t play real well against Jordan.”
“Parker has been working real hard and played great today,” Wescott said. “He’s one of the best goalies out there.”
Viewmont’s Alex Watanawekin played in spectacular fashion stopping 20 shots from a powerful Braves offense.
“I thought Ping (Watanawekin) played great today,” Isenhour said.
Wescott also praised the play of Watanawekin.
“He is a very good player,” Wescott said. “You got to see two of the best (goalies) in Utah today.”
